The Villa La Rogaia is situated on the northern shore of Lake Trasimeno on the Umbrian/Tuscan border in beautiful peaceful countryside with fields of sunflowers and groves of olives set amongst gently rolling hills. There is marvellous walking and mountain biking available right from the doorstep with horse riding close by. Lake Trasimeno (Il Mare Umbro - the Umbrian Sea) provides a variety of watersports - you can swim, sail, catch a ferry across to one of the islands - or just enjoy it as part of a scenic drive. Umbria has ancient towns that provide an fascinating way to spend a day - within easy driving distance are the superb hill towns of Assisi with its world famous basilica and Perugia the capital of Umbria and home to great chocolate!

The villa itself is a carefully restored old stone Umbrian country house with holiday apartments that cater for between 2 to 8 people. There is a large garden, a pool and a sculpture park. In addition to olive picking you can enjoy painting, sculpting, creative writing, dance and cookery holidays.

Details:

Olives are picked by hand in teams of 3-5 people generally from Sunday morning until Thursday evening. On Friday the olives are pressed and the oil bottled for you to take home. Your share is half what you pick - which could be anything between 2-15 litres. Also on the last evening the pickers will enjoy an informal dinner, known as “rinfresco” to celebrate the harvest. Other meals you will prepare yourself - possibly with other olive pickers using a common kitchen - or your well equipped apartment.

Price:

The price of the holiday depends on the apartment you chose to stay in. As a guide this ranges from €240 per person per week in a double room sharing a bathroom with one other room, to €325 per person per week for a stay in a private apartment with private terrace (based on double occupancy). Single rooms with shared bathroom cost €360 per week.
