Adopting an Olive Tree from Casa-Margherita

Background

Casa-Margaherita produces its olive oil from olive groves in central Umbria - the heart of the Italian olive growing region. Traditional varieties are tended using age-old methods.

Types of Tree

The varieties grown are the traditional Umbrian mix of moraiolo and leccino varieties.

Oil

The trees grown in this part of central Umbria produce an olive oil which is greener in colour with a richer and more piquant taste and a distinct attractive grassy note. The olives are cold pressed and the oil unfiltered. You will receive a a guaranteed 2 litres of extra virgin olive oil.

Price

£60 - this includes an adoption certificate, an olive oil pourer, a handbook, a set of three (thyme, chilli and lemon) infused oils and 2 litres of extra virgin olive oil.

Notes

  • The fantastic names given to the types of trees available for adoption include:
    • Young and Virile - trees that have just entered into full production.
    • Full Flush - in their prime - the troopers of the grove.
    • Elder Statesmen - awkward to pick but well worth the effort.
  • In addition to your olive oil you get a set of three infused oils sent in summer.
  • You can add your own message to the adoption certificate.
  • You receive and olive oil pourer to drizzle your oil with.
  • Get updates on the progress of your tree and the work being undertaken in the grove.

The mist is rising from the valley as we walk down to the olive grove.  In the distance the sound of the church bells rings out.  We spread the nets around the tree - keeping them close to the trunk to make sure the olives don't fall through and get lost onto the ground below!
